Open Arms has been serving those in need since Spring of 2014.
Open Arms provides food, clothing and other basic supplies to many local families including refugees, the homeless, and those experiencing financial hardship.
Our vision at Open Arms is not only to feed and clothe people, but to wrap them with hope, love and encouragement. We don’t want to be just a handout, but rather a hand up.
Our free clothing boutique is open to the public on Tuesdays from 1-4pm. Shoppers may chose up to 5 items of clothing per person in their family on each visit.
On a monthly basis our community co-op members come together to shop for free food and clothes.
The program is limited to 35 families. Members must volunteer and make a time commitment to the community co-op program. There is an enrollment process to become a member. At this time due to our long waiting list we are no longer accepting new applications.
Infant Care Needs:
Open Arms partners with Happy Bottoms to provide diapers to qualifying individuals. There are three parts to qualifying to receive HappyBottoms diapers: your child’s age, where you live and your income level. HappyBottoms serves children under the age of four. Kansas families must reside in Wyandotte or Johnson Counties. The family must show they are in financial need. This can be done two ways: by showing proof of participation in WIC, SNAP (food stamps), TANF, or Medicaid or by providing pay stubs for all employed household members. Applications for HappyBottoms diapers are accepted at Open Arms on Tuesdays from 1-4pm. Tuesdays from 1-4pm is the only pickup time available at Open Arms for particpating families. Please note: families are not allowed to receive diapers from multiple agencies in a month.
Open Arms is actively involved in helping the homeless in our community. We provide warms blankets, sleeping mats, coats, gloves, hats, clothes, blessing bags and occasionally hot meals.
