  • *Gifts of appreciated securities (stocks, mutual funds, ETFs) allow a donor to avoid capital gains tax while deducting the full fair-market value, making the gift more attractive.  
  • *Starfish can accept non-cash assets instead of just cash.
  • *If you hold appreciated securities (stocks, ETFs, mutual funds) and were going to sell them anyway and donate the proceeds, you might instead donate the securities directly. That saves you the capital gains tax and lets you get a deduction for full current value.
