Family Promise of the Northland is one of 200+ independent affiliates of Family Promise, a national nonprofit organization that started 25 years ago and now works in 44 states across the country. We respond by integrating educational outreach, smart programming, effective policies, and the hands-on work of thousands of volunteers. We provide food, shelter, and support services for homeless families. We provide advice and advocacy for at-risk families to prevent their becoming homeless. And we educate people about poverty and the means to combat it. At the heart of each affiliate is an Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN). The IHN marshals existing local resources to provide for homeless families as they work to get back on their feet. These resources include available congregational spaces, donated goods, and most importantly volunteers. Through all its affiliates nationwide, Family Promise mobilizes more than 180,000 volunteers from coast to coast in our commitment to building communities, strengthening lives. Each affiliate is nonsectarian. They welcome all clients.Their volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and represent nearly every faith in the United States.Since its founding, Family Promise has served about 700,000 people, including tens of thousands of homeless families who found temporary homes at our Affiliates. Most of our clients are children. Our proven approach has helped nearly 75 percent of clients secure housing.
