Job Title: Volunteer Coordinator
Position: Part-time – 3-5 hours per week
Reports to: Executive Director
Summary
The primary responsibilities of the Volunteer Coordinator (VC) are to work with the Executive Director to manage the volunteer force at GateWay of Hope.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Volunteer Management – works to recruit volunteers and replace any volunteers as needed.
- Volunteer Stats – sends monthly reminder to volunteers regarding hours. Compiles monthly volunteer hours and sends to Executive Director in timely fashion for board meetings.
- Initial Contact – sends Background Check and Volunteer Application to all interested volunteers. When completed, sends paperwork to Business Manager and works with him to secure completed documents.
- Orientation – all volunteers at GateWay go through a volunteer orientation. The Volunteer Coordinator will initiate this orientation, plan it, prepare all materials and ensure that every volunteer understands the focus and working process of GateWay.
- Volunteer Files – manages volunteer files in locked storage room and keeps all files updated.
- Administration – Sends birthday cards and encouragements to volunteers.
- Volunteer Appreciation – the Volunteer Coordinator initiates a Volunteer-of-the-Month program which includes choosing the monthly volunteer, initiating an interview and writing up a story for the newsletter. The completed story is also sent to the Board President and the Executive Director for the annual choice of the Deborah Simon Servant Heart Award. The Volunteer Coordinator also work with the Event Planning Team for the annual Volunteer Appreciation.
- Communications – participates in GateWay social media sites as appropriate. Helps to promote GateWay at church / community / network events.
- Professional Conduct – presents a courteous and helpful demeanor. Participates in GateWay functions. Maintains standards necessary to perform job duties in accordance with the requirements of the GateWay Policy and Procedures Manual.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum Requirements
- At least two years of college.
- Efficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills, office etiquette, working with people and organizational abilities.
- Works well with other staff and volunteers.
- Desire and ability to learn new tasks and systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- College degree in related field.
- Prior experience in a church, not-for-profit, or business environment.
- Willingness to include personal network on GateWay’s database and Social Media platforms.
