About
Metro Lutheran Ministry offers emergency food and housing assistance to homeless and needy families of all religions in Kansas City’s urban core. We also offer sustaining resources such as household budget and resume coaching.
Company Overview

For 40 years, MLM has provided emergency assistance to homeless and housed families of all races and religions in Clay, Jackson, and Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson and Wyandotte counties in Kansas. MLM reaches over 23,000 individuals battling poverty each year with food, clothing, rent/utility assistance, and minor home repairs. Beyond emergency assistance, we offer coaching on household budget skills and job searches and provide information about other community and government resources.

MLM has a rich history of pioneering emergency assistance programs in Kansas City that have become successful and separate not-for-profits. As examples, MLM was a founder of Harvesters Community Food Network, the central distribution center for Kansas City’s food pantries; Kansas City Community Gardens, a self-help and education-assistance program in designated garden plots across the city; Parvin Estates, a 300 unit apartment complex for low-income families in North Kansas City; Sheffield Place, transitional housing for women and children; and the Warmth and Light Coalition (now a part of Project Warmth), a collaboration with utility companies to provide emergency utility assistance.
