Moneytalk Summer Camp is an opportunity for high school students, college students, and young adults to enjoy a fun-filled week of learning basic financial skills in a hands-on, interactive environment.
Summer camp is centrally located at Crossroads Christian Church (5855 Renner Rd, Shawnee, KS 66217) just East of I-435 and Johnson Dr. (confirmation of location pending)
Students will learn how to:
- – Create a budget they can live with
- – Manage a bank account and prevent overdraft fees
- – Identify different types of insurance available, typical coverage, and why they should care
- – Prepare for all types of taxes – payroll, sales, property, and income
- – Take simple steps to protect their identity and what to do if their identity has been stolen
- – Pull their credit report, understand what it says, correct errors, and improve their score
- – Purchase a vehicle
- – Rent an apartment
- – Navigate a grocery shopping trip (note: a field trip is planned)
- – Make the different financial tools work together successfully
- – and much more
Students will receive:
- – A copy of the workbook for each topic
- – A 3-ring binder and dividers to store their workbooks
- – Light breakfast, Lunch, Drinks, and Snacks
