About
The AFL-CIO Community Services program is a partnership between United Way and the AFL-CIO with a goal to assist those in need gain access to health and human services.
Company Overview

The American labor movement has a long and proud tradition of community service. Even before collective bargaining, unions took care of their own and helped the community. As unions grew and matured they developed more sophisticated ways to help people and participate in community efforts to help working families and improve community life. Since the creation of the AFL-CIO, unions formalized this tradition with the creation of the AFL-CIO Community Services Program.

The Fab-U-Less Finds is a place where members of the community can shop for affordable clothing, furniture, electronics and household goods. Here, shoppers will find a wide range of new and gently used merchandise that will complement both their home and wardrobe.

The program also presents an opportunity for prospective donors to reallocate items in good condition that are no longer in use. Not only are donations fully tax-deductible, they are also put to good use because items are distributed to other community members who need them.

We understand that not everyone can afford to pay for household goods or clothing items when the need arises. We offer free merchandise vouchers for clients who demonstrate need or present vouchers from other partner agencies. In 2014, a total of 19,391 items valued at $49,309 were given away to those in need – a service that enabled 6,359 individuals to enjoy clothing and household goods at no cost to them.

Just like any other store, merchandise is added daily to the great selection already found at the Fab-U-Less Finds. Promotions such as Senior Citizens Wednesdays, half-off sales, bag sales, and other discounts are featured throughout the month.

IMG_4087The program is open to all members of the general public and is made possible by people like you. Without your help, many individuals would lack the basic items they need to live comfortably on a daily basis.

Donations can be made anytime during our normal business hours, Monday through Friday. Pick-ups are available and can be scheduled by contacting our office at (816) 364-1131.

We also require the assistance of volunteers on a regular basis. Those wishing to volunteer their time will also earn $6 merchandise credit for every hour volunteered.

If you would like to donate items to the community or would like to volunteer your services to help those in need, contact the Fab-U-Less Finds at the information below. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps us keep our programs alive.
