Accommodations and Amenities

The men in the transitional living program are housed in a converted hospital. Rooms are arranged dorm-style and are shared between residents. The facility also includes a kitchen, dining hall, therapy rooms, a lecture hall and office spaces.

Clients get three meals a day prepared by an on-site chef, though clients are required to help participate in meal clean up. Special dietary requests can usually be accommodated. The permanent housing program is offered through Matt Talbot apartments. Located across the street from the main facility, the building offers furnished units. Smoking is permitted in designated areas outside of the homes.

Rules and Regulations

The transitional living program offers up to one year of care, though duration of stay can range anywhere from 30 to 360 days. Prior to admission, residents undergo a health assessment by a resident nurse. For those with mental health issues, an on-site psychologist and psychiatric nurse are available for dual diagnosis support. While not officially a 12-step based program, clients are required to attend several on-site AA/NA meetings per week. In addition, they must attend a range of therapy sessions and also are required to obtain employment. Therapy includes weekly individual and group therapy sessions. As clients stay in the home for longer, their required number of meetings and therapy sessions per week goes down while the number of hours of community service per week increases.

The permanent housing program is offered to men who have successfully completed the transitional living. They are able to move in as long as they have the ability to pay rent and stay sober. There is a strict zero tolerance policy for substances during either phase of treatment. Anyone who is found relapsing is subject to being evicted from the program.

Extras

Case management is offered and may include employment counseling, independent living skills, recreational activities, legal advocacy and referrals, spirituality, financial counseling, family counseling and referrals to community self-help groups.
